Air Passenger Duty Rates

Class of ticket and travel destination Duty per UK flight departure
Passengers flying to
EEA destinations and certain
other European countries
In lowest class of travel £10
In other classes £20
Passengers flying to
other destinations
In lowest class of travel £40
In other classes £80

Change from 1 November 2008

Currently carriers who offer a single class level of service to passengers qualify for the lower rate of APD. The current definition is to be amended in relation to any carriage of passenger which begins on or after 1 November 2008 so that single class flights offering a business class service will attract the standard rate of APD.

The effect? This will result in an increase of £10 for all flights within EEA destinations and certain other European countries and for flights to other destinations the increase will be £40.

Change from 1 November 2009

A new aviation duty will replace air passenger duty in November 2009.

Did you know?

That the Government expect to raise almost £240,000 an hour from air passenger duty. The total this year is £2.1 billion.
